Emotive imagery – a love story

This week Amy of the esteemed Lens-Artist quartet is looking forward to see our interpretations of “Changing and/or Changeable”.  For other interpretations of change visit Amy

Emotions open us up to fullness of life or to the brink of despair. It is certainly something which is “Changing and/or Changeable”.  This week you may see in the result of my captures that something has happened which positively impacted my changing emotions, regardless of the complexities the innuendo described in this tale brings.  If you know me though I suggest you read the words which I purposefully limited among the bountiful photos.

******************************

I hereby acknowledge publicly an impact on my life due to an association I did not plan. I was aware of her presence for the last 15 years but did not even think of her in that… special way. I surprised myself when I started looking for excuses to be in her presence. Merely looking at her brought a lightness in my step and pulled a spring veil over things which bothered me. Was just walking beside her going to be enough?
It all started when the moon rolled off the building
and fell into the lake.
The early morning showed promise that something may come of this
And indeed it opened up
blossomed and bloomed
She invited me to join her for a walk before work
And showed me priceless treasures
We spoke about appreciating beauty as certain types are fleeting
Such times bring peaceful reflection
 And a clarity of mind
 I was not surprised when our relationship took of
You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the words
I am the tune

Play me
Neil Diamond

She was the water.
I was the dried out tree stump;
she invigorated me

And she made me aware of my own secret places*

There is always one who stands out – she  is such a one

I DO NOT REGRET MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH DOOR-DE-KRAAL DAM

All these photos were taken since full moon (25 September) this year at the dam. Door de Kraal dam is 2 km from my place of employment and 5 km from my home in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town. All the bulbs grow wild. Truly infatuated I went there repeatedly before work, and after work, a few days in a row. And yes I did only discover it as a photography destination in the past month, despite driving and cycling past there numerous times in the last 15 years.

In the unlikely event of the cabin depressurizing or you not getting my tale just to reiterate – this is a only a metaphoric love story (figment of my imagination).  But I have developed a love for photography and imagery and it does have the ability to influence me positively.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
 Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.

Psalm 19: 1-4

    1. I forgot to mention, the story is almost like the guy who walked into his room and saw his empty double bed but exclaimed in exasperation: “Oh no! My make-believe girlfriend and my imaginary friend!”

    1. Inspired by you Amy as one of the esteemed Lens-Artist quartet. I missed a few errors which I have since corrected ii.e. monetary is supposed to be momentary, anyway… Thanks Amy

  2. Abrie-
    This was a treat!
    Each picture and your words flowed like a great tale – as you intended – and the moon rolling off then leading into the progression of blooming flowers – this is truly your flair and brilliant style – enjoyed every part- even the side note of your faith (and I am a Christ follower so I could respect how that was a passion for you)
    And the Opening words

    Even if metaphor – felt so real
    But you know what else?
    It reminded me of the affect and impact we have on other people –
    And I want my conduct to be so others minded that they feel
    Lighter in my presence

    1. Wow Prior, I really appreciate this special comment. Sometimes ideas just get me (I do not necessarily get it). This was such an occasion. I took my dog for walk around the dam (for the first time) while it was light and saw the closed flowers . I thought to myself I must be here with the next full moon and googled it and it was 2 days later. The sun was setting on the one side and the moon rising on the others side. Just coincidence and the next morning I came to photograph the flowers. Finding the hive under the tree stump was also special. And then I went back another few times. As you can gather i really enjoyed it. The hills and the trees will clap their hands..
