On your marks – get set – Rise

“For this week’s photo challenge, explore the vibrant, hopeful colors of your favorite sunrise or sunset”. says Erica V of WP.

Which makes me think: why is a W pronounced double U and not double V.  In America it may be to remember how a U sounds as quite a lot of U’s vanished in the Bermuda triangle en route to the New World. I may be digressing… (and please American friends I am only jesting).

This is not my favourite sunset, I hope to experience the grace that my favourite sunset is to be experienced somewhere in the future, to be replaced with another colourful favourite somewhere in the future, to be…. (insert loop here).  Now I could become a part-time Greek philosopher and reason with myself to determine where in the hierarchy of past rises this one will set, but lets just say this was yesterday’s favourite as I took the photos well yesterday.

The setting is Bloubergstrand (Blue mountain beach); Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa. I took the first photo with my Sony Xperia mobile phone and the others with Nikon Cameras. See captions under photos

While Table Mountain is not yet intimidated by darkness, the setting sun sets the sea weed alight

Kite surfers making waves, in front of Robben Island

I will rise if you have set

All work and no play still gives a beautiful view

Towards the blackening Blue Mountain – the day is ending

On the 2nd and 3rd photo Robben island can be seen. I am sure Nelson Mandela would have loved observing these kite surfers if only it was invented when he was incarcerated on the island. Today the prison is a museum and the beach and sea emanates freedom. It must be exhilarating to jump a wave and be hoisted into the sky by the wind.

  • When the sun rises we are able to observe and accomplish things without artificial light.
  • When the Son rose, He set us free from being artificial beings as He accomplished Life for us.

Because of His kindness, you have been saved through trusting Christ. And even trusting is not of yourselves; it too is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good we have done, so none of us can take any credit for it. Ephesians 2: 8,9

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”  Luke 24:32 -34

The Sun may set and rise again and again but the Son remains risen

Blessed Easter

  1. Oh wow! Awesome post, Abrie. I love the pics… although I think having a fancy camera is cheating… I mean an advantage. Lol! My post is scheduled for 8am (Monday) and I took all pics with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. I must have been blessed with a spectacular sunset. *wink* Competition or no competition, I must say that I love how you incorporated the resurrection of Jesus, and Easter. It’s really great! I don’t know if you’re first a writer before a photographer. A blessed Easter!

          1. Ook maar goed jy het liewer gaan bergklim, want hulle het ons oneindig geïrriteer. Ons het oorweeg om ons “comment likes” toe te maak, maar dit lyk of hulle nou eers weg is.
